Water Clarification Processes

The best way to describe ‘Water Clarification’, is the process of removing solids and other types of suspended particles resulting in clear water. Water Clarification processes and silt seperator equipment are typically commissioned to treat surface water and for the biological treatment of wastewater.

  • Surface water examples include water obtained from: dams, streams and rivers. Surface water is contaminated by animal/human wastes, chemicals from runoff and algal blooms.
  • Types of industrial wastewater are collected during the manufacturing process or associated cleaning methods and these include: heavy metals, oils, solvents, chemicals, wood chips, masonry & concrete and dirt & gravel.

These types of substances are then dissolved or suspended in water, and it’s the Water Clarification process that helps to remove these suspended solids and particulates before the water can be safely discharged or reused. Suspended solid and particulate removal is typically completed by 3 processes called: coagulation, flocculation and sedimentation. It’s the grouping of these 3 processes that is then called ‘Clarification’.

Water Clarification Systems

Systems of Water Clarification vary with different configurations and sizes, depending on the needs of your business or project site. Water Clarification

  • Water Clarification systems can be rectangular in shape (water flows from end to end) or circular in shape (water flows from the centre outward).
  • Water Clarification systems generally fall under 3 categories: Lamella Plate Clarifier / Vertical Parallel Plate Clarifier, Parallel Plate Horizontal Clarifier or a Circular Clarifier.
  • At PR Water Australia, we use Lamella Plate Clarifier’s, coupled to a Chemical Dosing System. These innovative units are mobile, with a small footprint and they’re modular, in that they can be supplied as one unit, or as a group of units depending on your business needs.
